For an internet marketer and blogger July and December are the worst months of the year. The affiliate sales go down and most advertsers seem to be on holiday. So it has been for me for 10 years and this trend still remains.
On the other hand, the months before, ie June and November are usually more profitable than any other months of the year. Advertisers are looking to buy advertising space to last all through July and affiliate sales go though the roof, specially if you advertise hotels and travels.

The important thing is not to panic. I have friends who lose their patience after a couple weeks without revenue and close down their blogs. Just to restart afresh in August or September.
Big mistake!
Most of you know by now how difficult it is to build a blog that provides a decent income, and to restart it will not help the situation. On the contrary advertisers and visitors keep away until they see that the blog have continuity and that may take months or even years.

July and December is therefore the best months for bloggers / marketers to take time off, wind down the pace of work, so they have new momentum when as all goes back to normal in August or January. When you have been going as a blogger for a few years you learn to plan your budget so that the money will last even during ” the off season”.

Keep your cool and do not give up. Think of it as a good chance to get some well deserved rest.

Blogging with iPhone – WordPress Application

The problem with going on holiday is to access and update your blog blog. I solved it by installing a wordpress application on my iPhone. It can be downloaded from iTunes directly to your phone. FREE! It is easier to use this application than to directly surf to wordpress page, mostly because there are problems if you want to upload photos to your blog post.
In addition, it appears that you have to write all messages in HTML if you use the traditional side.
The application has addressed these issues in a smooth way, and you can also have all images reduced in size so they fit your blog post. This is done in the setup menu for the application.
You can also check comments etc..
TIP!
I looked for the button to publish posts from the iPhone and I began to think that something was wrong or that I had temparary blindness.
I discovered that there is no publishing button in the application instead you simply change the status of the post from Draft to Published. That’s it!
Remember that you need to enable XML-RPC. You do this under Settings -> Writing.

Blogging via email from a regular mobile

Alternatively, if you do not have an iPhone, but an ordinary mobile, you can blog via email. In order to do this you need a secret email address that only you know and all emails sent to that address becomes a new blog entry. Of course it is possible to add photos to the blog post.
The settings to blogging via email are found in the Settings -> Writing section where you fill out mail server, port, email address and password. Then of course you need an email account on your mobile. Just make sure you add an email account that is not the same as you the one you send you blog posts to. If you have your own server and own domain can probably create unlimited email accounts but if you dont have your own domain/server you need to obtain a free email account that can connect to POP3. Gmail is a great service in that regard.

Now you do not have to drag around a laptop on your vacation but still keep your readers updated 24/7.

Have a great vacation!

Most affiliate networks have many advertisers connected and as an affiliate you look for the programs that seem most profitable and most likely to generate money, right?
Once you have been accepted to a program it’s time to put up banners on your blog or website.
All affiliate banners contains a tracking code to track where traffic is coming from. If you tinker with the code, chances are that it does not work and you may not get paid. Don’t fiddle with the code unless you are absolutely sure of what you’re doing.

It’s quite annoying to having to keep track of which advertisers and banners are still active and which ones that has changed conditions so it is no longer profitable (it happens all the time, so keep your eyes open). The best thing to do is to create ad pools that automatically displays different banners from all the advertisers you are working with. This means you have only one code to keep track of and the pool isshowing only those ads that you are connected to. In short, you just have to change the settings in the ad pool (not the ad code) in order to stop displaying a particular ad. This is much easier than changing every code you put in to the blog or site.

Some affiliate networks also have predefined ad pools where every click gives a certain amount no matter what the conditions of the advertiser are. For example, Double has a predefined pool where each ad click gives $0.5 and 8 of ‘my’ affiliated advertisers are connected. Normally they would only pay 5-25 cents per click, but with the ad pool I get paid at least twice as much.

Good luck!

I recieved an info product, MoreAffliliateCash, a couple of days ago, created by Phil Bowman. At first I thought it was just another one of those products that will teach you how to become an affiliate. It’s not.

Instead the product is a video guide for webpreneurs who already have a domian name, a web site and a product and are looking to make money by having affiliates do most of the marketing for them.

What do I get for my money?

The package contains 7 videos that covers:

1. Introduction
2. Customize a download page
3. Clickbank and PayDotCom explained
4. Setup a product on Clickbank
5. Setup a product on PayDotCom
6. Upload files
7. Find Affiliates

These videos are, no doubt, for newbies and they show how to use simple HTML-pages for landing page, download page, how to use Clickbank and PayDotCom and add the corresponding payment buttons on your site. You also learn how to use autoresponders to build a customer list and how to upload your files on the website, test them and get everything running.

Expercienced marketers will probably not find anything new here. In fact, the expert marketers probably use more advanced techniques and more complex web pages with .htaccess for downloads and their own affiliate program. However, expert methods and database driven websites may be a bit over the top when you first start out as an online marketer. I do recommend using the methods in MoreAffiliateCash until you get the hang of it and are ready to move on to hardcore marketing and advanced web coding. I myself used the methods in MoreAffiliateCash for a couple of years when I first started out as a webpreneur and it is a good way to get going and setup your first profitable product site.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Here’s a typical example of how many beginners go about when tying to start making money on the internet; they read all the guides they can find and launch a web site on the topic “make money on the intenet” (a marketing guide site). They put together the tips and tricks they have learned and try to tell others what they should do, without actually knowing if the advice they give work.

The point is that there are thousands of sites on the subject and many of them are run by so-called gurus and marketing experts. The newbie has very little chance to get their share of the cash in this niche. Sad but true and I just want to draw your attention to this before you use up all your energy on a site that is not likely to generate any income.
However, the great thing about “make money online” sites is that, if they are well written and relevant (and not just a lot of hype and drivel), they can attract a lot of traffic. The traffic can then be exploited for building other sites that will actually be profitable.
Your chances of success in this niche increase if what you write is original, detailed and exclusive. In other words, write about things that not everyone else writes about. This means that you must have knowledge that goes beyond the ordinary, and be willing to share it.

My marketing sites are far from being as profitable as the other sites / blogs I have. UrOnlineBiz accounts for a fraction of the total income but on the other hand, it also generates a decent mount of traffic. Traffic that will be beneficial for my other sites.
I know it sounds awkward and I haven’t yet met any other internet marketers who developed the same methods as I have. Perhaps they simply haven’t come up with the idea yet? But the fact remains that I almost never put money on marketing and ads, and I still get a decent share of both revenue and traffic. For me it is quite incomprehensible how one can pay ridiculously large sums of money on Google Adsense and the like?

The conversion rate (ie how many visitors that converts into a paying customers) to a marketing site is a bit under 0.4%. Consider that when one of my other blogs, that sell MP3s (own products), has a conversion rate of 6-7% and generates about $ 2.600 per month .
Another site that sells web hosting deals (affiliate) has a conversion rate of 1-2% and pull in about $ 550 a month. In addition, there is also revenue from traditional advertisers. I have 12-15 sites running for most of the time.

In short, most other niches are significantly more profitable than the niche “make money online”. This is especially true if you market locally,in your own country, where there may only be a few hundred potential customers.
If you market globally you have a better chance because there are millions of potential customers. On the other hand, you also get thousands of competitors.
Don’t get me wrong here: If you think your “make money online” site will become one of the most popular and profitable, you should go for it.

If there is will and determination nothing is impossible. I am just saying there are easier ways to get to the cash.

A new Paid To (PT) site, BuxMile, is offering really cheap traffic. In fact the deal is much better than with JillsClickCorner.
Of course with the low rates the earning potential on the site is very limited and I don’t think this site will grow big anytime soon. Today it oly has just above 600 members and oly paid out like $1. However I believe this is an excellent opportunity for webmasters to get cheap untargeted traffic fast.

As always, be careful when dealing with new PTC sites. Don’t invest too much in a new site and keep you eyes open for indications of scam. A PTC site may seem great today but it may be gone tomorrow.

We will be advertising some of our sites on BuxMile and see if it is good value.

Sadly there are only a hand full honest PTC admins out there and TheClixWorld was a trusted PTC site up until today. Yes, a new owner had taken over the site and from our experience that is never a good sign. We will not be advertising there until we see that the site is as reliable as it has been when run by NR Network.

From the NR Network blog today:

This article is for those who are serious about internet marketing and/or building a network of profitable sites or blogs. It is also for those who just about to get a domain name that you will use to make money online.

An older domain often already has a decent ranking with Google and with some luck, there is also traffic and inbound links to that domain. If you havea chance to buy an old and established domain, that contain the right keywords, you may have encountered a small gold mine. It will also save you months, maybe even years, of work to rank up and get a good position in the SERP (search engine results page).
You can buy old domains at Sedo, Flippa, GoDaddy, NameJet, etc.

1. Keywords

I’ve talked about keyword in several articles and that is because keywords are the cornerstones in search engine optimization (SEO). Therefore, the keywords are of the utmost importance when you register a domain. If you have your keywords or keyphrase in your domain you will not have to put as much effort into marketing, advertising and inlinking as you would have to if you have an irelevant domain.

2. Usage

Once you know what you are going to use this domain for it is important that you identify which keywords are relevant. For example, to start a blog about travelling the word “travel” or “travel” should appear in the domain. If you can get an exact match on that keyword that’s great, but unfortunately it is not always that easy. Today, it is difficult to find the perfect domain because the exactly matched domains are likely already taken.
By exact match I mean a domain such as travel.com which has only the keyword in itself. You will pobably have to do with a broad match or phrase match like MyTravelBlog.com . This domain contains the keywords but also other words.

3. Check the domain’s age

Let’s say I found an older domain that I’m interested. The first thing I want to do is to check how old this domain is. I do so by going to DomainTools and enter the domain name in the “Whois Lookup” and press the search button.

I will then get a page that looks like this:

What I am interested in is the Creation Date so I know how old this domain is. If the domain is several years old it is a thumbs up, but if the domain is new I become more careful and must consider other aspects as well, before I buy the domain.
NOTE: Always do a full check of a domain, no matter if it old or new. A new domain can have several thousand visitors a day and an old domain may have no traffic at all. Such things must be taken into account.

Let’s move on.

4. Domain History

It is crucial to do a little background check on a domain before buying. I would never buy a domain which had been related to pornographic content or focused on gambling/ gaming or file sharing. In short, the domain should not be associated with things that could be detrimental to my blog or web site.
To check what the domain was used for in the past I go to Archive.org and type in the domain name in the box next to ”WaybackMachine” and press the Take Me Back button.

I will then get an archive of copies of the site looked like before.

Each link is clickable and will show you the site’s content for as long as the site has existed. This domain has been around since 2003 and in 2007 was the year we bought it.

When I click on one of the links it is like time travelling and I realize that a lot has happened since then.
This particular site has been focusing on internet marketing and making money online throughout its “lifetime”.

It is worth your while to carefully check out what the domain has been used for and especially what happened on the site recently.

5. Popularity

To obtain more precise data on how popular the site is (and was) the owner needs to have had Google Analytics installed. Unfortunately, this is not always the case since Google Analytics has not been around very long and site owners are not always using the service.
However, there are other ways to check the traffic, ranks and popularity even if these methods are just rough estimates.
In this example, I tested the domain on Alexa and Compete. You enter the domain name, hit the search button and get the results pages that look like this:

Alexa:

Compete:

Here you see the number of visitors, traffic rank and so on.

6. Google PageRank

There are lots of sites where you can check Google Page Rank or you can install the Google Toolbar.

You may run into fake page ranks created by people who point their domain to a higher ranked page. To avoid being scammed by fake page ranks you can go to Google and type in:

info:www.domainname.com

Press the search button. If a different page than the one you typed show up in the search result you know it is fake.

Maybe I should point out that it is not necessarily a deliberate attempt to cheat / fake a page rank when someone point one domain to another. There may be various reasons to do so.

7. Inlinks/back links

Checking how many sites are linking to a domain gives you an idea of how much link juice the domain gets. You can easily check this by going to Google and type in:

link:www.domainname.com

Then you will see all the sites linking to the domain. At least all the sites that Google finds. Yahoo often shows more results, so if you want more information you can use Yahoo instead. The method is exactly the same on Yahoo and Google.

Google finds 20 sites that links to a specific domain:

While Yahoo will find 29 sites and 122 inbound links for the same domain:

It is good idea to check what page rank and quality the linking sites have. The higher the quality, the more link juice is passed on to the domain we are checking up.

8. Google Indexed Pages

The more indexed pages a domain has, the better. Go to Google and type in:

site:www.domainname.com

Press the search button. You will now see a list of all indexed pages that belong to this domain. In this case, there are 98 pages.

9. DMOZ / Yahoo

If you find a domain that is already listed in DMOZ and Yahoo, it’s a big bonus. Google sees it as a big plus if the site are listedin such directories.

Here you can check if a domain is listed:
DMOZ
Yahoo Directory

10. Trademarks

If you lopurchase a domain containing keywords only, it’s not very likely that you can be accused of trademark infringement. But check trademark records anyway, just in case.
A registered trademark gives the owner the right to use the ® symbol. In addition to the symbol gives a serious impression and a registration is a powerful tool, both to prevent trademark infringement and to take action against infringers.
If you violate trademark laws there is a chance that you will lose your domain.

If you can not find the perfect domain today and you may very well find it tomorrow. Each day thousands of domains become available for purchase and is well worth your while to be a bit picky and make a proper background check before spending any money.

I hope this article was helpful. Good luck!
